What is the Florida Class G License?

The Class G License is a state-issued license in Florida that authorizes a licensed security officer to carry a firearm while on duty. This license is required by law for any private security personnel who will be working armed posts, such as high-risk locations, armored transport, executive protection, and government facilities.

To apply for the Class G License, individuals must: Be at least 21 years old Hold a valid Florida Class D Security License Complete 28 hours of firearms training from a licensed security school Pass a background check and firearm qualification exam Submit fingerprints and a license application to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS)

Once approved, a Class G license is valid for two years and requires annual requalification to remain active.

Note: Carrying a firearm as a security officer in Florida without a valid Class G license is illegal and may result in criminal charges.
